The successful man of the Medici family was named, Lorenzo de Medici. He was born January
1, 1449 in Florence, Italy. He was known as "Lorenzo the Magnificent" . The people of Florence gave him this nickname because
he was a statesman, ruler and patron of the arts. At first Lorenzo ruled Florence with his brother Giuliano from 1469 to 1478,
but after his brother's assassination he became sole ruler. Lorenzo's gratest contribution to history was patronage of the
arts. In the year 1492, Lorenzo became very ill. He died during the night on April 8, 1492, at the age of 43.
